How often should a gas fireplace be serviced?
Once a year, ideally before the heating season. Even though gas burns clean, the burner, venting, and safety controls need an annual check to keep the flame efficient and to rule out any carbon monoxide risk.
Are gas fireplaces a carbon monoxide risk?
Any fuel-burning appliance can produce carbon monoxide if it is not burning or venting correctly. That is exactly why the annual service checks the flame and the venting. We also recommend a working CO alarm on every level of the home as a backup.
Why is the glass on my gas fireplace sooty?
A sooty or filmy glass usually points to incomplete combustion — often from log placement, a dirty burner, or a clogged port. It is worth addressing because the same incomplete combustion that dirties the glass can produce carbon monoxide. Cleaning and correcting the burner setup fixes it.
Why won’t my gas fireplace light?
